PRINCES AND PRINCESSES
Philippians 2:13-16 For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure. Do all things without murmurings and disputings: That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world; Holding forth the word of life; …
Galatians 3:29 And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise.
Who would choose the path of commoner, peasant, or serf? Oh, to be born a prince or princess! Would that the fortune of birth had granted us royalty, esteem, and position!
Princes and princesses, are they only the stuff of fairy tales and fantasies for young minds? “Once upon a time” is the foundation upon which Walt Disney built an empire, a kingdom in its own right and rightly labeled, “Magic Kingdom”. Could this fascination with princes and princesses be an inherited trait or implanted program from the very beginning of creation? Would it be far-fetched to suggest God would place such a desire or trait into our psyche to be passed down through generation after generation? After all, God has planned and plans from the beginning for heirs of His kingdom.
Fantasy and dreams of royalty pale in comparison to real life. Disney’s portrayals of princes and princesses are mere shadows of the real thing. Oh, certainly the prestige and aloofness of these characters is accurate, but how do they live day by day? We imagine the prince arriving in the nick of time and in desperate situations to save the day, or the princess inspiring people to great and wondrous deeds. A royal heir in any kingdom whether national, industrial, or familial, begins from birth to acquire the skills, attributes, and character needed to function as a prince or princess of the kingdom. Their life is organized around a structured life of study and learning. Each is impressed with responsibility, instructed in law, and held to a high standard of conduct. Heirs of a kingdom must be understudies in training. They continue in a strict regimen until they inherit their position in the kingdom. Not every heir will be king, but every heir has a role in the kingdom.
“If ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs “, - is this the stuff of fairy tale and fantasy? Not only is the believer an heir, but a son of God. If God is King of Kings and we are sons of God doesn’t that make us princes and princesses? Certainly, Jesus Christ is Prince of Peace, the ONLY begotten Son of God and King of Kings, Lord of Lords. But, each of God’s children, sons and daughters by adoption, princes and princesses of the kingdom of God, has a position and authority. What shall that position and authority entail? “Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: …” (I John 3:2) We will know some day. Are you ready for that day?
Will we be prepared for the day we gain possession of our inheritance? Christ said He goes to prepare a place for us. Are we preparing ourselves for our place? As the princes and princesses of this world prepare for position, shouldn’t we also, heirs to an unimagined, wondrous, grandest of grand kingdoms, also prepare? “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” (II Tim. 2:15)
We can be the prince and princess that arrive in the nick of time in desperate situations. We have a message to be preached and shared with the “common” world. Every person has an opportunity to change their “lot” in life and to become sons of God, heirs, princes and princesses.
An heir gives their all early in life to be the best in whatever position is awarded them. During their growth they suffer, work, and study diligently. It is part and parcel of their fortune of birth.
Have you considered the award and reward of your inheritance?
“If, only, I could have been born a prince”! Everyone has the opportunity to be born-again. By choice and not by chance we may become a part of the greatest kingdom this world will never know.
What is our part and parcel in the fortune of rebirth?
