ONE OF A FIND
Mathew 13:44 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.
Treasure! Everyone would love to find a treasure. A treasure can be of great value to the finder and others beside. Other times the value of a treasure is only in the eyes of the beholder. This latter is the case when examining God’s measure of love for the treasure of redeemed souls through the atoning power of Jesus Christ.
The kingdom of heaven is a treasure trove waiting to be given to the saints of God. Yet, Christ gave up the vastness of heaven’s treasure for a treasure of a different sort.
Saints of God have the unique advantage of knowing the course of their lives. They have no wonder for the after life and no question of this life. Every born again believer knows the course which God has set for their life. In all areas of our lives we are to present the gospel of Christ in deed, voice, and presence. We should exude the love and message of the gospel to the whole world. And, we should not fear the specter of death. Our death is only a portal we must pass through when we enter God’s presence. Death itself affords no fear. It isn’t for the treasure of heaven we know and follow the course set before us, but because of the price with which we’re bought. Had there been only one man or woman willing to repent and receive redemption through Christ, God would not have changed a thing. If you were to be the only resident of heaven, Christ would have made the way. For the treasure Christ sees in only one saved soul, he gave up everything. The power of one man or woman as a priceless treasure is the catalyst which sent Christ to the cross. Though the treasure is priceless God made the way to exact payment.
Treasure has power over the possessor. The possessor of a treasure will do anything to secure it. This parable is about the joy of Jesus Christ who sells all he has. Have any of us sold all we have for joy? Can we begin to fathom the “all” of Christ? What did he give up for the prospect of securing only one soul?
God looked through the portals of time and perceived us, a treasure beyond price. He made the plan of reconciliation to secure this discovered treasure. Amazingly, the treasure of one has become a treasure of many. God could not find a way to pay the price for only the treasure without buying the dirt of the whole field. Every single treasure He’s found is in the field of sin. Christ had to pay the price of sin for the whole world in order to secure the treasure of reconciliation for even a few. Only Christ has the power to pay the price of the field. No treasure of itself can buy its way to discovery. A treasure can’t be found without being searched out. And, then in its discovery, it must hold value to the finder. What good is a field of gold to a starving man? What good is a field of grain to a man with untold wealth?
Can we fathom our worth?
Who are we in the eyes of God that makes each of us such a treasure?
Who then, is God in our eyes?
Hebrews 12:2 Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.
